Problem: algae carried in from the creek and nutrients from ducks made the water hard to treat. The reservoir needed regular emptying and cleaning.
Solution: 108,000 Hexa-Cover® tiles poured into the reservoir in June 2017.
Result reported by East Gippsland Water: 95% less total algae biovolume, 98% less potentially toxic biovolume, 89% less E. coli and 57% lower turbidity, compared with the two years before installation.
Problem: two concrete equalisation basins receiving screened raw sewage, with high odour and algae potential.
Solution: Hexa-Cover® was chosen in place of a planned aeration system because it cost less. Installation took less than an hour.
Result: no odour and no algae reported at the covered basins, while two uncovered basins at the same plant were covered in algae.
Problem: a 2,185 m² open pond for de-icing fluid and storm water needed a bird deterrent, protection of wildlife from glycol, and odour control.
Solution: Hexa-Cover® installed from big bags in less than four hours.
Result: the cover works as a bird deterrent and odour control, and the tiles rest on the pond slopes when the level drops.
Problem: evaporation from open dams, which made water carting necessary.
Solution: Water Corporation covered dams with Hexa-Cover® in a trial with researchers from the University of Western Australia.
Result: evaporation reduced by 73%, saving more than 1.6 million litres of drinking water during the trial.
